Recently Received Books/Reading Stack

I've had some books through the post in the past couple of weeks and haven't had the chance to put them up here... until now! Here's my reading stack including the recently received books:

  • Black Magic Woman by Justin Gustainis (courtesy of Solaris)
  • Earth Ascendant by Sean Williams (courtesy of Orbit)
  • Dragonfly Falling by Adrian Tchaikovsky (courtesy of Pan Macmillan)
  • Doctor Who: The Story of Martha by Dan Abnett (courtesy of BBC Books/Ebury Press)
  • The Birthing House by Christopher Ransom (courtesy of Sphere)
  • A Madness of Angels by Kate Griffin (courtesy of Orbit)
  • Evil Ways by Juston Gustainis (courtesy of Solaris)
And my recent purchases:
  • A Fire Upon The Deep by Vernor Vinge
  • Infoquake by David Louise Edelman
  • Predator: South China Sea by Jeff VanderMeer
I'm going to try and alternate books for the moment between ones I've bought and ones I've had through from publishers. Out of the books listed above I won't be getting around to Dragonfly Falling as it's book 2 in a series and a fantasy, which really isn't my cup of tea. I loved Black Magic Woman so I'll definitely give Evil Ways a go and A Madness of Angels seems to be in a similar genre so I'll see about that one. I'm also going to read The Birthing House pretty soon, I really fancy a horror :) And I'm reading Predator at the moment just in case you're wondering, hopefully the review will be up soon.

I'm also finding that I'm straying into other genres recently - mainly because there are so many books out there that are just so good. I'm going to try and get back more into sci-fi books, but it really does depend what I see on the shelf and pick up, my mood can change in a flash!

I think that reading other genres lets you see things a little fresher.

For me it's a bit too easy to compare when I'm reading lots of similar things rather than letting the books speak for themselves.

Nice reading stack BTW. Some good stuff there.

Looking forward to the reviews :D

Thanks Gav :) I must admit that it has been nice to read outside the sci-fi genre (for probably the first time in recent memory). And as you said, it is easy to compare when reading similar books - I found that the change with BMW was just what I needed and it got me excited about reading again. I'm still itching to get back to sci-fi though!
