Monthly Update | Jan 2010

So what have I done in January? Well, that's what this post is here for! I'm going to do this sort of post at the end of each month so I can reflect on the books I've read, games I've played, what I plan on reading next month and I'll also be having a look at the books I've received during the month. So here we go!

Books Read
  1. WE by John Dickinson
  2. Serenity Vol 1: Those Left Behind by Joss Whedon
  3. Flashforward by Robert J Sawyer
  4. Serenity Vol 2: Better Days by Joss Whedon
  5. Blood Pact by Dan Abnett
  6. Orphan's Journey by Robert Buettner
  7. Terminal World by Alastair Reynolds
  8. The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
I'm actually extremely pleased with what I've read in January. Although the two Serenity reads are comics I still met my target of six books this month, something I plan on trying to continue this year. The reviews for Orphan's Journey and Terminal World will be coming up soon while The Prince of Mist is a book I'll be reviewing on Waterstones.com in the near future (with a possibility of cross posting it here).

Games Played
  1. Star Ocean: The Last Hope
  2. Resident Evil 5
I'm trying to make more time in my schedule to play some games, but how successful that'll be is yet to be seen. I played quite a bit of Star Ocean this month before finally having enough of the characters - they're just too boring and predictable. It's a real shame as it had so much promise :( As for Resident Evil 5 - I'm loving it. I've still got a couple of chapters to go before it's completed, but so far it's exactly what I hoped for :)

Plans for February

At the moment I don't have many plans on what I'll be reading next month. Mike Cobley's The Orphaned Worlds is one that I'm about to start and I'm also going to read Inside of a Dog, but other than those I'm not too sure. I've got all my books listed on Goodreads, so have a look at my to-read shelf on there and let me know if you see anything there that you'd like me to review :)

Any chance of tackling The Quiet War? I've stall on that one... wondering if it's just me. :D

I note the Charlie Huston book - he also writes crime and dark fantasy. I've only read his first (crime) novel so far, and it was superb. He's a great writer, and I'm personally looking forward to getting my hands on Sleepless at some point in the future. He's also the author of the wonderfully titled 'The Mystic Art of Erasing All Signs of Death'; I haven't read it yet, but it's in my reading pile.

Hello :)

I noticed that you also like games, and I just wanted to put your attention to one of the BEST sci-fi games that I have ever played :) Take a look at Mass Effect and also the new Mass Effect 2 which is the biggest sci-fi game this year!

Gav - it's one I plan on reading, just not sure when I'll get around to it!

Harry - definitely, I'm hoping to stay on track and get at least 6 done this month :)

Gary - I've not read anything by Charlie Huston before but have heard good things - I'm quite lookinhg forward to it.

Soren - I've got the first Mass Effect and found it very difficult to get into. It may be that it was my first xbox game that I played and I was just too used to the simpler Wii experience so I will give it another go.

Does that mean that you are hopping on board with this bet gav & I have to finish minimum 6 novels per month.

I'll put in another vote for The Quiet War. I'm also curious about Bright of the Sky and The Last Legion.
